USG

So this morning was the USG. I have spent a bit of time at the gym, running and biking… except for this week, I only swam once on Friday, since I was up in SLC all week long.

Anyway, I did rather well. Beat my SGTri time by quite a bit, as well as last years. Plus, I didn’t crash when coming down the hill like last years USG! That’s always a bonus.

SWIM: 19:57
T1: 4:15
BIKE: 50:11 (14.9mph)
RUN: 38:59 (12:34 minute miles)

TOTAL: 1:53:24

Not tooo shabby. But I still have a bit to improve on before the Utah Half.

Dear Vatican…

Dear Vatican,

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I was worried that you were either too busy for one of those Mormons from Utah, or there were no tours available during the full three days that I gave you. It is grand that you responded. I can’t wait for Thursday, September 18th. Seeing the Excavations beneath St. Peters Basilica will be quite the memory. I only wish that I could use my camera (sans flash), do you think you could ask the “big guy” and see if it’s ok? I promise I’ll be good.

Please accept my CC Payment of 20,00 Euro so the two of us may confirm our reservation.

Again thank you for responding. I know it is probably time consuming to do this all by hand, when you get over a hundred requests a day.

Sincerely yours,

CBL

PS. You should really get a web app that lets people reserve, confirm and pay online. I know a couple of good interaction designers and coders that could do that relatively cheap. Oh and the Scavi website needs updates.

Whilst at the gym…

I was on the treadmill trying to run 6 miles. Only got to 4.5. Anyway, I noticed in front some lady was going to get on the bikes. She went and got some paper towels and cleaned down every part of the bike it seemed like. More than one usually does. Anyway, I noticed when she left she didn’t bother cleaning it off after her. Honestly, I’m the kind of guy, that if I leave a big patch of sweat on the seat, I’d rather clean it up right after.. so the next bloke doesnt have to clean up dried out sweat. But I guess that’s her style.

Lack of Spell Check : Priceless

Scavi

So it turns out that there are some ruins underneath St. Peters Basilica. It’s called Scavi or The Excavations.

According to the above link, you have to make a reservation well in advance to be guaranteed a spot. Only 200 people a day can go down into the excavations. So last Tuesday I emailed the Scavi office at the Vatican. Have not heard a peep back. I gave them the possibility of three days for a tour, since we’ll be in Rome for all of those three days.

Doing some more digging there was another email address they had listed, so I emailed it too on Friday. That one gave me an auto-response email. But still nothing, as of today. It seems that this is the “hottest ticket” in Rome. Everybody that goes down there loves it.

So make sure ya’ll pray that the three blokes that run the Scavi office will reply to one of my emails with a time we can go. I’m dying waiting for a response.

Part of an Email..

I received this at the beginning of one an email from a customer today.. thought it was kind of funny.

Hi cassidy (sorry for the formatting of this my caps don’t work and my enter key doesn’t work)…

All one line. However, it looks like ’shift-H’ worked at the beginning..

Prince Caspian

So I just went and saw Prince Caspian at the Coral Cliffs Cinema 8 in Hurricane with my sister and bro-in-law. Pretty good show. I LOVED the music. Some parts gave me chills, and I almost felt as if I was going to tear-up (probably because of the music).

I finished reading Prince Caspian a month or so ago while at the gym. They seemed to deter from the book quite a bit.. seemed to be a bit more fighting than I remember reading.. However, it was still a good show. Worthy to add to my collection once it’s out on Blu-ray.

Yeah, I’m signed up..

If you didn’t get it from the previous post (the one that had some cool waiver stuff), I just registered myself for the Utah Half. $106.44 total. Not too bad. I guess I could’ve offered to host their site for free in exchange for free entrance.. maybe next year.

Now I just need to be able to run 13 miles without dying.

Utah Half Waiver..

Well..part of it..

I love it.

To Half or not…

So today I was thinking about this goal of mine.. do an IronMan by age 30.. I have like 14 months left and I’m not ready. No where near being ready. So I say to myself.. “how hard can it be? I just need to train like every day”. Then I get into my head how I can get ready for said IronMan next year…the best way might be to do the Utah Half. I mean how hard can it be? hah

Only 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. I have 9 hours do to it in. Can it be THAT hard? Yeah, probably.. if I dont train. It is August 9th, so I have a little under three months to do it. I’ve already been swimming three times this week during lunch and been to the gym three times as well. Eating better, eating less and making sure I keep drinking all the water like I have been.. I’ve lost about 7 pounds in the last week. Down to 243. w00t.

So anyway.. random thought.. To Half or not? I think I will. It’s two weeks after the Spudman in Idaho..and Spudman is going to be olympic in length, so that’ll be a good warmup for me to do the Half, I’d say. We’ll see.. but I thinking of registering soon.
