First recorded 5 mile run

So I ran my “longest recorded run” tonight with my Nike+ ipod thing-a-ma-gig.
Distance 5 miles.
Time 55:54.
926 calories burned.

This beats my 10k (6.6 mile) time which took like an hour and a half at Spudman. Actually, I never had ran a 10k before in my life, before then.

The best part of the workout is when Lance Armstrong comes on at the end of the workout and says: “Congratulations! You have just recorded your longest workout yet”. He also says something when you get a new personal best at the distances you run, but I can’t remember quite what right now. my legs hurt.

Latest personal bests..

Monday at lunch: Swam 40-laps (2000 meters) in 37 minutes. No breaks. That’s the same swim for a Half IronMan.
Monday night: Ran 5k for a new personal best. Time 33:36.
Wednesday night: Ran 5k for a new personal best. Time 33:01.
If I can keep my swim and run progressively getting better, I think I might actually be able to show progress this year. Still lacking on the bike though. Need to find more time to ride.

Triathlon Update

Last Saturday I did the Spudman Triathlon up in Burley, Idaho. It was a rather fun venue. I drove up to SLC on Thursday to have some fun before the trek up to Burley Friday night. I ended up camping with my tent out on the driving range of the golf course they have there. It was pretty fun. Pete and Colleen came up as well.

Saturday morning my wave started at 8am. I was in the last wave due to my weight class. You’d think they’d put the fat slow guys up first and the fast thin guys at the end so they can pass, but no, I was in the last group. The swim was pretty fun because we swim down current in the Snake river. My time on that was around 19 minutes. That distance for the swim was DOUBLE what I normally do on the Sprint (since Spudman only offers Olympic in length). It wasn’t that much longer than my Sprint times either. I was rather surprised. Thank you current! At the beginning they kept yelling out to move back, but because the current was pushing my wave, we kept creeping up.. and we had to swim up stream to get behind the starting line. Pretty awesome stuff.

The Bike was interesting. Since it was double the length that I normally do, it was 26 miles or so for the ride. I only have one bottle cage on my Tri bike (see previous post). One bottle of water for me on this length was NOT enough. I was about finished with it around 9 miles in. Conservation was key for me in making it through. I’d like to think that if I had more water I could have gone a bit faster. I’ll be looking for some rear mounted cages or hydration systems before Jordanelle (August 25th).

The Run, as always, is my weakest point. I sucked. It was 10k in length and took me around an hour and a half. 15 minute miles. Ugh. I ran some, walked more. It was hot, but it was fun.

So went my first Olympic distance Triathlon. What a great race. I look forward to doing it next year as well. Hopefully, with more training under my belt my run and bike wont suffer as much as they did this time around.

Afterwards, back in Heber, I noticed I had this sweet “V” shaped burn on my chest from where my bike jersey was open during the bike/run. It’s almost faded now (6 days later), but was pretty funny.

The 3rd Annual Cache Valley Tri in Hyrum, UT is this Saturday. I’m opting to stay home this weekend, even though I got a free entrance to it. Jordanelle, on the 25th, is the next race for me.

That is all for now. Go back to your regularly scheduled readings.

tri harder

Pete sent this link (see below) to me a few weeks ago. I’ve been forwarding it around to a few others that I know since I just did the Echo Triathlon last Saturday. The swim portion of the tri is always the funnest. It’s like WWF swimming in the open water. I keep watching it and keep laughing out loud. It’s just soo funny. Better if you have done a triathlon so you know how true it really is. But funny if you haven’t. Check it out.

Time to go run…

Time for a new bike

S22 from Felt Been looking for a new Tri bike. Something that will let me be more Aero in my form, fit me better and inspire me to ride. I think the Felt S22 might be just the one for me. It’s in my price range, and has most of the features I was looking for at this early point in my Tri career. I was going for a Cervélo, but the guys down at Pro Cyclery in Vegas thought this would be a better fit for me, and has some upgraded components.
I went down last Saturday for a fitting, and they mentioned I’d get 15% off if I put money down on a bike (without deciding yet). So I put some cash down, called them Monday and told them to get the S22 ordered. Got a call Wednesday saying it’s backordered until the first of March. So, I’ll be playing the waiting game again.. I could just get a Cervélo ordered, but I think this might be a better fit for me.I have the option, if I dont like the felt upon delivery to take it back and swap it out for another bike…within 20 days. Not a bad deal. I can do that up to three times. Lets me get a good bit of time on the bike as well as the availability to swap it out if I dont like it that much. So Pro Cyclery is my new favorite Bike shop. It’s in Vegas, but saved me 15% off the bike and they seem to have some good customer service. Something that a few of the local shops in St. George lack.

Saturday will be a cold day for a tri…

This Saturday is my third Ogden Valley Triathlon in Huntsville Utah. It’s up the hill from Ogden at Pineview Res. Fun place. I have really enjoyed it in the past. Unfortunately, the weather is looking bad. Looking really cold.

High for Saturday: 51 °F

Low the night before the tri: 38 °F
Good thing I have a wetsuit.  It will be pretty cold.

Ogden Tri 2005

Ogden 2005 So that’s me at the Ogden Valley Triathlon last Saturday morning. The last Triathlon of the 2005 season. *tears*

Here I am doing the ‘run’. It really sucked. I think I twisted my right ankle or something because it was pounding by the time I had just started running. All of this after trying so hard to practice running since the last Tri (Jordanelle). Sucks to be me.

The bike was quite enjoyable. 18 miles though. That’s probably the longest I’ve ridden in one ride in my life. But I did it in like 1:10 minutes. 15 miles and hour I think is what milliseconds clocked me in at.

Oh and the swim. Well, it was FREEZING COLD. There were guys behind me before we started that were just shivering.. 24 minutes on the swim. Longer than normal for me (typically 18-19 minutes in a tri). Probably because of the cold… or the WWF fighting going on.

Anyway, it was quite fun. In the morning early it was windy, overcast and a few raindrops were falling. That ended for quite a nice Triathlon.

Here’s to next year, hoping I can get my act together and do better.

Jordanelle

Time for another Triathlon. This one is at Jordanelle up past Provo canyon by “Francis, UT”. Fun little place. Last year I didn’t have a wetsuit and almost froze.. this year I hope to do better.. hopefully.

Pete and Colleen are also doing it. We’ll see how far behind I am in the end.

00:42:31.800

That’s my run time. I suck.

Overall the Tri was quite fun. It was a bit overcast during the swim and first part of the bike.. during the run the sun came out and it got hot. Wow. Running sucks.

Maybe I need to start the swim out in front as to get around all the people grouped together and swimming slowly.. it’s a pain. Banging into each other.

Biking. I need to work on this too. More biking for me.

And Running. Running sucks. I need to do this majorly. Get my time down to something REASONABLE is my next goal.

Total time: 02:02:20.800

Milliseconds has my results here.. even though they screwed up and didn’t get my T1 time right…

Running sucks..did I mention that?

Echo

It’s Tri Time again!

Right now I’m off to the TriUtah 4th Annual Echo Reservoir Triathlon. This was my first Triathlon last year when I raced. Quite the experience. Now I’m back, with 5 Tri’s under my belt and with a road-bike to boot. Hopefully I’ll do better this time.

I’m quite excited about the swim and bike, however the run (5k) will kill me..

Good luck me!
