New Tire Time

Pilot Sport PS2 So I just got new tires from Costco for the Saab. You might be asking yourself: “New Tires? Already?? WTF?!” Yes, it is that time. 23,000 miles have come and gone by beneath the the floor of my Saab. 16 months total. The guy at the Vegas Saab dealership has said that I need to be getting tires soon. So, thanks to a nice tax refund, I ended up going for these tires. The Michelin Pilot® Sport PS2™ 235/45ZR17 94Y.
Benefits:
* Chosen by the World’s Fastest
* Best-In-Class Cornering
* Highest Combined Wet and Dry Performance

The guy at costco was surprised when I asked for them. He asked how I learned about them, since they dont have them in stock everyday. “The Internet”, I replied. He said all the fancy cars have these on them by default.

I had them installed Monday evening.. and already I can tell a difference in the ride. It feels a little smoother, quieter and just plain better than the other tires.

So thanks, Mr. Internet, for giving me some recommendations on a good High-peformance tire.

saab in garage. /me is sick.

It’s here. After two months+ of waiting, I have a saab 9-3 aero in my garage. It’s an awesome sight. One of the sales guys said it’d be the best ride to St. George I’ve ever had. He was right. It was hard keeping it within the speed limit. Easy to burst out and go 90+. The other thing they said was “don’t hit a deer”. I was hoping it wouldn’t jinkx me, and it didn’t.Got home about 12.30am. Woke up, and took a drive around the block with the cousins that have been staying with me for Thanksgiving. After they left, I felt ill and have been sick ever since. Too bad too, because the saab is calling me. saab

48 hours more…

My dealer was able to get my Saab on the truck yesterday. Unfortunately, they didn’t know when the trucker would deliver it. We were hoping for this morning (Wednesday), but unfortunately, it looks as if it didn’t show. They believe that it will be there Friday morning. So, unfortunately, I won’t have it for Thanksgiving as I had hoped. I know the Saab guys are getting sick of me and my constant questioning, but that is life with me.

So I got my buddy pass relisted for the Friday flight at 11.19am. Hopefully, it will arrive Friday morning, and I’ll be able to pick it up and be back by 7pm for our bi-annual Tuacahn Nativity thingy our family does. Ugh. If not, at least I should have a new car.

So yeah, another 48 hours of waiting.. sucks.

Fun with Financing

I’m an opportunist. I work the system. With that introduction, I give you the following story that happened this afternoon.

Yesterday, the Saab guy called to get the info for financing. I finally go ahold of him this afternoon and he stated that the Wells Fargo approved me at a 72 month loan at 9.25%. He thought that was rather high and assumed there was a typo in the email and it should’ve been 7.25%. I told him to confirm.

Meanwhile, I did some digging online and filled out a couple of applications.

#1. CapitalOne Auto Financing. Easy application. They said I’ll get a call or email within 15 minutes after completing the form. I didn’t. So I called 45 minutes later. They said it was pending a zip code problem. I guess they couldnt handle my 4 digit extension on the zip, so they removed it and it got approved. Hung up with the lady, logged in and saw that it was 7.65% or something. 1 minute later I get a call from them telling me I’m approved, etc. Pretty quick call. I was impressed. However, I told them that my dealer was quoting me 7.25%. They wouldnt budge. Application canceled.
#2. Eloan.com. The other site that bankrate.com recommended. Seemed a lot like #1. 15 minute response time, etc. Did the application, the private personal data that they require. Their email said that due to the large volume of applications I should call in. So I did. He had to verify everything over the phone (what a pain!), and then said I was approved for a 9.75% loan. Umm..no thanks. I said that my dealer was offering 7.25% so if they couldnt beat it, I’d be not interested. He asked if I was interested in sending it back to the underwriter to get their ‘best rate’ of 6.69%. I said sure. He said if we cant do it, I wont bother calling back. That was nice.

#3. Lendingtree.com. I see all the ads. I tried it, and it submitted the loan request to #1. Thanks, but no thanks. #1 emailed me back saying they deleted the duplicate application, which was nice.

So driving home after all of this (hoping that my dealer got the 7.25% after all instead of the supposedly typo’d 9.25%), I get a call on my cell. It’s eloan guy again. He said “you know why I’m calling… we got you the 6.69%”. Sweet. Not bad. So they’ll overnight me some docs. I have to pay $15 for an overnighted check I could use at the dealer to pay for the thing. Nothing committed until I use the check. This way I can take the check and stuff back to my dealer and work my magic. Trying to get them to lower the interest rate with Wells Fargo, or better yet, lower their price they’re charging me (since they get a cut back from Wells Fargo for each loan). I doubt i’ll be able to get them down to 6.69% or less, but it’s worth a try.

One other note, on the eloan, I had to agree.. or signed up for automatic online payments…this is to get the lower interest rate. This is doable since I can have the amount auto transferred after a pay check into my checking.. or better yet, have them auto subtract from my savings to which paychecks go into. We’ll see what happens.

Oh and my car is in California. Waiting for the truck. They’re saying I should have it by Thanksgiving. I can only pray. I have my insurance quote all ready, my buddy pass (thanks Casey!!) ready to fly up and pick it up, my fancy TechII options that I want customized on the thing printed out and ready for their service manager, now I just need something to pick up.

Saab on Boat

I’m the particular type of person that likes to know where my things are. So when I got my Saab, I did my research and found the website that Saab uses to ship their cars to the US via boat. Since then I have been early awaiting for my VIN number so I can find out exactly where my car is in the world.

Today, I got my wish. I got the schedule of where my car is in relation to the schedule. Oh and I got my VIN.

Order Entry: 09/20/06

Released to Production: 09/25/06

Production Completed: 10/10/06

Dep. Date, port of loading: 10/16/06

Shipment, departure date: 10/14/06

Arrival Date: 11/11/06

Arrival date at Dealer, calc: 11/20/06

Since I was able to get my VIN# and track it..and since I was able to find the Vessel name (see image below), I figured there HAS to be a site that tracks where cargo freight liners are located in the ocean. Sure enough, I found one. The boat with my Saab hasnt been updated in 11 days (just off of florida). But it is cool to see it moving closer and closer…

Exciting times ahead.

Saab Cargo Snapshot

It’s ordered!

I think I’ve already told most of the frequent readers of this blog that I ordered my 2007 Saab.

Yesterday, I gave Ken Garff Saab my AMEX# for a $500 deposit on my very own 2007 9-3 Aero.

Specs are as follows:

- Jet Black Metallic Exterior

- Slate Gray Leather Interior

- 6 speed Manual Trans

- 17″ wheels

- Cold weather package (Heated Front Seats, High Pressure Headlamp Washers)

- 6 disk CD changer (standard)

- Moonroof (standard)

- 2.8L 6-cylinder 250-hp engine (turbocharged)
So off the order goes into the queue in Sweden. My sales guy said it could possibly get here by the end of November, but more than likely in December. Merry Christmas me, from me.

I’m pretty stoked. If you can’t tell by now.

More New Car Goodness…

WOW. Today I drove up early to SLC to test drive a Saab 9-3 Aero. All they had on hand was the 2006 9-3 Aero. All I can say is.. WOW. After driving it, I REALLY want to get one. It has some great acceleration, killer interior, and it just looks awesome. Plus it’s “safe”. 2007 9-3 Aero Interior
The guys over at Ken Garff Saab in SLC were very helpful and friendly. I was impressed. Got a few email addresses there so I can get some quotes written up. Afterwards, I’ll make a decision and then put down some $500 or so down on my AMEX and they’ll get it ordered. By the holidays I should have my Saab. Plenty of time to get some money saved up and some CC debt paid off. So here’s to me getting a new 2007 Saab. I got a VIN# on the 2006 so I can find out how much insurance it’ll be. Last time I got a quote (a week ago) it was only $400 a year. Not bad. Note the image above is the non-Aero. Though i’m looking for the gray interior. The 2007 Aero image is here (although i’m getting gray interior and manual trans)

My New Car????

I’ve been thinking about getting a new (as in newer than my ‘99 Ford Ranger, not brand spanking new) vehicle. Something that offers a little more room, something a little better on the gas bill, and something that makes it easier to drive up to SLC and back in comfort. So I’ve been looking around, trying to find what works best for me in regards to specs, speed, MPG, and looks. I think I’ve found it. The Saab 9-3 Aero sport sedan. 4 door. I like the black or “laser red” colors myself. Saab 9-3 Aero
It’s an awesome car. From all the reviews I’ve read it handles great. Has a 2.8L V-6 engine under the hood. Of course I’d opt for the manual transmission as well as the Touring package (since i’m wishing here). The only problem is there are no dealers in St. George. Closest is SLC or Vegas. However, I’ve emailed a guy I know at a local car shop and he said they’ll be on the lookout for one (turns out my cousin’s husband is the general sales manager there now so he’s looking for me). Hopefully, they can find one that I like and can afford. I might just have to use the “we’re family” card to get a killer deal. They said they sold the last 9-3 Aero within 2 days so they’ll be getting more than one in since it’s a hot item. Here’s hoping I get myself a new little toy. I’ll be accepting donations to the “Buy Cassidy a 9-3 Aero” fund starting now….
