These feasts do not teach the doctrine.. but illustrates the doctrine.

Lev 23; Num 28-29; Deut 16.

Feast in hebrew means “appointment”

Convocation.. from Hebrew means “rehearsal”

They had not rehearsed for their appointment…

This lamb you eat.

Blood of the lamb covers families… not individuals

It is the fall feasts.. (appointment).. and convocations (rehearsals).. when he comes.

He expects us to dwell in booths (tabernacles or temples).. that’s how we learn about the rehearsal which he has for us to meet up with him.

“His Name Shall Be Called Joseph”
JST, Genesis 50:33

Nison 17th..when the children of Israel crossed through the Red Sea.
When Joseph of Egypt’s bones was picked up on the Feast of First Fruits.. On a day of that significance.. they saw that a tomb was left empty.. Joseph of Egypt’s.. a couple millenia later.. on the same day.. a tomb was left empty.. Jesus’s..

D&C 135:6 — “their names” — because power is in the name.
135:6 – “fire can scathe a green tree” — Habakkuk

1 Nephi 11:4 — Believest thou that thy father saw the tree of which he hath spoken? — Why a tree? Christ.
11:6 – Why Hosanna instead of Hallelujia? In Hosea the olive tree is Ephraim..

In ancient and latter days the covenant shall be/was established in the Lands of Joseph… by the hand of Joseph.

“Where in the Bible did Joseph get…”
– Baptisms for the dead?
– 3 degrees
– Spirit World teaching
– Word of Wisdom

Nothing we have comes from the Bible.. but by revelation. The Bible does not prove the truthfulness or error of a particular religion. It supports it.

JSH 1:12-14 –

One principle to the true church.. not 17,.. but one.

D&C 20

As you come into the Tabernacle.. travel East to West.. Sun in the morning is in the East.. setting in the West.. in the latter days it’ll be in the West.. in the Beginning with Judah, in the latter day Joseph.

The Lord instructs Solomon to build the washing laiden to be build upon 12 oxen.. if it was for 12 tribes..then it’d be built on the back of Ox, Eagle, Lion, Man, etc…

3 Doors or veils you have to pass through to get to the holy of holies.. constantly going west..

The responsibility that rests to bear the sins of the world rests with Joseph in the latter days..

Genesis 50:24–> (JST)
Moses and Joseph were named before they were born.
50:29 —and he shall be called Moses..
50:33 — name shall be called Joseph.. named after his father.
Pattery prophecy.. with multiple fulfillments.. Moses and Joseph.

How does Joseph Smith deliver his people out of bondage? Spiritual Bondage..

Moses of Egypt delivered them out of physical bondage..

Isaiah 49:1 — prophesying of his name
49:1-4 — who is this servant? Joseph or Jesus? Yes.

3 Nephi 21:1 – the coming forth of a book is the sign.
21:9 – although a man shall declare it unto them…
21:10 — he is in my hand (in my power)… though he shall be marred because of them.
21:11 — whosoever will not believe in my words..they shall be cut off from among my people who are of the covenant.. (just like Moses said, see above the Genesis 50:xx in JST)..
If you get the Church of Jesus Christ from someone other than Joseph ..

there is only one point to the true church.. if any of you lack wisdom ask of God…

The Following passages from the Old Testament also clearly refer to Israel’s deity as the procreator of humanity:
- Ex 4:22
- Deut 32:6,18

- Isa 64:8
- Jer 3:19

“All people of all ages have had temples in one from or another.. When the history of human though shall be written from the point of view of temple worship, it may well be found that temples and whte word done in them have been the dominating influence in shaping human thought from the beginning of the race. ” John A Widstoe, Temple Worship, Utah Genealogical Society; 52.

God was indeed anxious to have a sanctuary erected to Him, it was the condition on which he led them [the Israelites] out of Egypt, yea, in a certain sense the existence of all the world depended on the construction of the sanctuary… Louis Ginzberg, The Legends of the Jews, vol IV; pg 150-151

… The Main object was to build unto the Lord a house whereby he could reveal unto his people his ordinances…. Teachings 307-308.

Gordon B. Hinckley, “Why These Temples”, Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints; pg 2… “These buildings, different from the thousands of regular Church houses of worship scattered over the earth, are unique in purpose and function from all other religious edifices. It is not the size of these buildings or their architectural beauty that make them so. It is the work that goes on within their walls.”

Ascension was central to temples.. in ancient and present architecture.. South America, Egypt, Ziggerat in Babylon.

In ancient Israel, ascension occured in the progression from the outer court to the inner court to the holy of holies.

Brigham Young, Discourses of Brigham Young, pg416. … “Your endowment is to receive all those ordinances in the house of the Lord which are necessary for you, after you have departed this life………”

Joseph Smith, Teachings, p159 — “This is why Adam blessed his posterity; he wanted to bring them into the presence of God. They looked for a city, etc., ‘whose builder and maker is God.’ (Hebrews 11:10) Moses sought to bring the children of Israel into the presence of God, through the power of the Priesthood, but he could not.”

Ezra Taft Bensons, “What I Hope You Will Teach Your Children about the Temple, ” Ensign, Aug 1985, 9 “How did Adam bring his descendants into the presence of the Lord? The answer……..” (check Ensign for more)

Jonah 1:3 — “But Jonah rose ‘up’ to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.. ” Because he’s in the presence of God he’s going to be a messenger and a mediator.. … but he does ‘down’ to Joppa …. “from the presence of the Lord”

Up, Down, Down, Down… the author uses a verb in Hebrew, yarad, to go down.. Descent..
He descends from the Presence of God until he ends up in the belly of the fish.

When the Savior was asked for a sign.. he said “You shall have a sign.. ” Jonah.. Jonah is a type for Christ.

Jonah’s experience is quite the opposite of our temple experience.. Down, Down Down.. instead of up, up up..

Jonah 2:4 — I will look again toward thy holy temple.
Jonah 2:7 — and my prayer came unto thee.. into thine holy temple

“Holy” — “Sanctuary”

The thing that makes a thing/object/location Holy is the presence of God.

Grades of Holiness:

The children of Israel were holy (Exo 19:4-6). Therefore they had to live by higher standards than their neighbors did. (18:2-5, 24-30). The priests however were holier and were allowed to serve at the altar. Tehy were therefore required to live a higher standard of holiness than the general population (21:1-7). The High Priest had to live by an even higher standard (21:10-15). The classification of animals parallels this stratification. Only large and small cattle free from defect could be offered on the altar (1:2; 22:18-29). However, Israelites were permitted to eat from a slightly larger group of animals (11:2-8). The animals that could serve them were an ever larger group.

Holy of Holies — High Priest
Holy Place — Priests
Altar of Whole Offering — Levites
Court – Congreation for Worship

Joseph Smith, The Words of Joseph Smith, pg 119-120 “I preached in the grove on the keys of the Kingdom, Charity &c The keys are certain signs and words by which false spirits and personages may be detected from true, which cannot be revealed to the Elders tillt he Temple is completed. The rich can only get them in the Temple — the poor may get them on the Mountain top as did Moses..no one can truly say he knows God until he has handled someting, and this can only be in the Holiest of Holies”

Exodus 3:2 — he looked, and, behold (behold is a presentative.. it presents new information in perspective of the narrator) — the bush burned with fire…
3:2 – angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire.. JS changed it to ‘..presence of the Lord…’ appeared unto him..
3:5 – take off thy shoes.. gesture of approach.. were one tries to make sure the dust from ones shoes does not contaminate the presence of the Lord..
3:5- – for the place — place, it will refer to a temple setting..

Genesis 28:11 — and he lighted upon a certain place — a temple story coming up..
28:12 – ladder — a mountain..connecting the heaven and the earth. Where one can ascend and enter the presence of God.
28:16 – Surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not.
28:17 – this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
28:19 – Beth-el — house of God
Gates are Used typically as a reference for a temple.

Gates of Righteousness:
Psalm 118:19 – Open to me the the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will priase the Lord.
118:20: This gate of the Lord into which the righteous shall enter.
24:3- Who shall Ascend into the hill of the Lord.. or who shall stand in his holy place?
24:4 – clean hands.. exposes his heart.. lifts up his hands.. Hallel ..
24:7 – lift up your heads, O ye gates…

“The singer wants to walk throught he portals of righteousness. At the gates leading to the sanctuary inquiry is made about the righteousness of each participant in worship. That is why the portals are called gates of righteousness…Passing through the gates is a sign of being included in the realm of the righteous” Othmar Keel, The Symbolism of the Biblical…??

Kaph: “The Hand in Cupping Shape” — clean hands were very symbolic… in the palm of the hand..or the hand in cupping shape. — Consecrate — “To Fill The Hand” … The God of the old temple would fill the hand with this gifts necessary to perform the requried tasks..

Psalm 73:13 — Heart, hands, cleansing..
73:23 – Neverless I am continually with thee: thou has holden me by my right hand.

“This [the clasping of the right hand] points to a royal (might we even say, messianic?) procedure. The forumla, ‘God grasps one by the hand, when the king ascends the throne and is inducted into royal office, denotes the conferring of privilege and charisma on the king (Isaiah 45:1; 42:1).” Hans-Joachim Kraus, Theology of the Psalms, pg173

Isaiah 56:4-5 — ” .. will I give in my house and within my walls ‘a hand’ and a name better than of sons and of daughers.. ” ‘a hand’ replaced from NSRV

Ether 3 — a temple story.. ascent into the presence of God.
3:1 – 16 small stones.. white and clear.. transparent as glass.. carry them in his ‘hands’..
3:6 – he enters into the presence of the Lord.. .. “the Lord stretched for his hand… and the veil was taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared..”

Revelation 1:1 – Revelation of Jesus Christ
1:11 – Commandment to write what he shall see.. send it until the 7 churches.

Why those 7 churches? why not church of Rome? The names of these Churches in Greek form a pattern

Ephesus 2:1
Smyrna 2:8
Pergamos 2:12
Thyatira 2:18
Sardis 3:1
Philadelpia 3:7 (one who loves his brother – what Philidelphia means)
Laodicea 3:14

v12 Instead of seeing a person he sees seven golden candlesticks.. candlestick is a symbol of the Church. Hold up the Light.
v13 – garment.. begins with a garment, ends with a garment

Right hand is the covenant hand.. hand in hebrew also means ‘power’.. giving all that you have to God.
These 7 stars in his hand are in his power.
v20 – Angels or servants of the 7 churches.

Teachings, 290 .. plainest books…
Teachings, 327. He who reads it oftenest will like it best, and he who is acquainted with it, will know the hand of God wherever he can see it.
Teachings, 290 … being born again comes by teh Spirit of God through ordinances.

Parabels of Matthew 13
1. Sower and the Soils
2. Wheat and the Tares
3. Mustard Seed
4. Three Measures of Leaven
5. Treasure Hidden in a Field
6. Pearl of Great Price
7. Net
8. Householder

Covenant Fathers of Malachi.. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob

The order of the 7 churches the name and the order is important.

Seven Key Elements for each of the 7 churches:
1. The meaning of the name of the Church
2. The Savior’s title relative to each particular Church.
- The Savior has 24 names in Revelation 1.
- In Revelation 4 he has 24 Elders on the Throne.
- 7 different ways introduced to these churches.
3. The commendation-things done well
4. The criticism – things needing attention.
5. The exhortation – specific to each Church.
6. The promise to the “overcomer” in each Church.
7. The key phrase: “He that hath an ear to hear let him hear…” (only occurs 7 times.. in relation to these 7 churches) (only occurs 7 times else in the bible)

The Power of a Name:
Ephesus: The Desired one; permitted
Smyrna : Myrrh
Pergamos: Mixed Marriage; height, elevation
Thyatira: Semiramis (wife of nimrod)-Continual sacrifice; odor of affliction
Sardis: Remnant; red ones
Philadelphia: Brotherly love; one who loves his brother
Laodicea: The rule of the people; justice of the people.

These 7 churches are the story of how we go from birth to God-hood..

Blessings of the Churches are always at the end of the letter to the church.

Ephesus: Blessing — overcome our natural fallen nature. given the tree of life. Represents Christ because of what it produces.. fruit.. brings us everlasting life.
Smyrna: Blessing — (why tribulation for 10 days? 2:10) He that overcometh shall not be hurt by “second death”
- Agency is not the freedom to choose.
- An Agent represents the cause of someone else.
- Freedom and right to represent our client.. God is our client. We represent his name.
- We dont have the right to sin..
- Teachings, 328. One thing to see the kingdom.. another to enter it..
- John 3 .. born again to see.. born again to enter..
Pergamos: Blessing v17 – Hidden manna, white stone, new name.
- God covenant.
- Given three things (hidden manna, stone, new name)
- When you make a covenant you are given three things.
- Hidden from whom? From the world. Those who dont overcome.
- White stone in ancient Greek..they cast a white stone to acquit someone in a court of law.. Black to mark them guilty.
- The manna acquits us of the sin.
- Stone is a symbol for Christ in the OT. (Rock/Stone of Israel)
- Who’s name is it? Christs. We receive it at Baptism..which gives us access to the bread of life..which acquits us of all sin..
Thyatira:
- Blessing in 2:26-27
- Blessing: Power over the nations
- Before #3 (Pergamos) you are nothing.. but after #3 you have right to a kingdom.
- Rule them with a Rod of Iron — Word of God. Rod begins where the path begins..
- Power, rod of iron
- who is the word of God? Christ manifested through his gift he gives us.
- Give him the morning star (Christ)
Sardis:
- I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
- Hold fast and repent.. if thou shalt not watch, I shall come as a thief (2nd coming)
- If you are watching he does NOT come as a thief in the night.
- If you know the signs.. Like a woman in Labor.
- Clothed, book of life, name before Father.
- What makes these people worthy? Their garment makes them worthy.
- You must be wearing ‘internal’ garments to be made worthy and not being cast out..
- Before you are covered with the white garment you are covered in blood..
Philadelphia:
- Pillar in the temple of my God.
- Two pillars built by Solomon positioned at the entrance on the east side… protected the way into the temple.
- Jachin and Boaz – He will establish – and – In him is strength
- Boaz is a type for Christ
- After you’ve been clothed in garments.. you must enter the covenant of marriage.
- Pillar in the temple; God’s name
- Write upon him the Name of my God.
- My new Name will be written upon him.
- 3 NEW NAMES. You’re new name. Son and God the Fathers new name. The number of the covenant.
Laodicea:
- you are six things: wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
- Tried in the fire.. that though may be right, clothed.. etc.. image of a king.
- Behold– I stand at the door and knock;.. and will sup with him (marriage supper)
- Door of the temple to which the pillars are flanking..
- He stands with the convent people in a marriage.
- Knocks with those three names.
- The son is knocking.. God the Father is on the other side..
- Once the door is opened.. The bride and the bride groom and Christ come through the door
- v21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne.
- Sit in God’s throne.
- Opens a door, allows you to enter into his celestial throne.
- A door was opened in heaven (4:1)
- Chapter 4 is a description of Celestial Glory.. what it’s like to live there.

Chapter 4:
- 24 is a fullness of priesthood..
- man and a woman have a FULNESS of the Priesthood.
- Withtout the Son we can do nothing.

The Coming Prince: Messianic Types and Shadows for the Latter Days
Cities of Refuge (Numbers 35)

Moses chapter 5 — they praise the NAME of God..
All scriptures are made to bear witness of Christ.

Purpose of the Law of Moses:
2 Nephi 11:4
Galatians 3:24

Numbers 35

Levites to possess their own cities.
The Priests should be among the people..

v2 – Command.. give unto the Levites of the inheritage off their posession cities to dwell in…
v5 – 3000 cubits.. 3 is the number of the covenant.. Gods people confine themselves within certain bounds..
v6 – Six cities for refuge — 6? Designed for refuge. 6 represents fallenness.. mortal, incomplete..
manslayer – unintentional killing.. so you must be punished.. there is refuge for those who commit sin unknowingly..
v7 – 48 cities. 48 is a multiple of 12? Jeremiah picks up on the implication here..

The Law of Moses is a divine law given to bring us unto Christ.

The 49 cities (7×7) of the Levites.. not 48? where’s the other?
1. Forty-two cities given to the Levites from each tribe (numb 35:6)
2. six cities designated as “cities for refuge” (Nnumbers 35:6, named in Joshua 20:7-8) .. names are highly significant.
3. The Messiah is designated as the consummate fortress for refuge (Zechar. 9:9-12 Jeremiah 16:19-21)

v14 — where are the cities? 3 on this side on jordan.. 3 in the land of canaan… West of Jordan (Gentile lands)..The Lord makes refuge even for Gentiles.. even if you are white, black, male, female, etc..

The candlestick (Menara?) is symbolized of looking for hope or light..

v25 – The congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood…… and shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest.. The death of the high-priest absolves all those living in the city of refuge of transgression.. you’re not covered by the blood of the high-priest if you’re not in the cities of refuge..

(Go back into Exodus on how a High Priest is made a High Priest.. Exodus 25, 26, 27, 28) high priest comes to represent God in the Flesh.. he is clothed to how God will come.. gold, blue, purple, scarlet — colors of God..

Alma 13 says, v2 — those Priests were ordained after the Order of the Son in a manner …….

Where were these cities were: (west of jordan)
Kadesh (Holy Place)
Shechem (Shoulder, back)
Hebron (Society, alliance)
(look at the names of the cities from south to north.. a Temple type.. the black onnex stone .. black means falleness.. )
These are covenant names..

(east of Jordan)
Jordan is a type of dividor between the righteous and the wicked.. .. Lehi’s vision.. river is between the two too..

Golan (Exile) — Lifted up. pigs/devils outside of israel.. casting the spirits into them.. why? can’t raise them in israel.. so some guy goes outside into Gentile land and raises them..
Ramoth (Heights) — pride??
Bezer (Gold) — money.

You have money, high and lifted up and in gentile lands..because you’re in exile.. Jesus was temped in Matthew 4 by 3 sins.. Money, Power and appetites of the World.

v28 – In the Death of the High Priest these people have life..
v32 – take no satisfaction for him in anything.. except for the death of the priest.
v34 – I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel

Jerusalem is the 7th city of refuge.. temple work .. it is the 49th city. . 7×7=49

Jerimiah 17:16 — my strength, my fortress, my refuge in my days of affliction

Cities of Refuge: A Type for Christ
1. Cities were divinely appointed (Num 35:1-2 — D&C 49:5 )
2. Cities were for the guilty (Num 35:11-12 — Matt 9:10-13)
3. The way to the cities was clearly revealted and known (Deut 19:3; Joshua 20:7-9; D&C 93:5)
4. The cities of refuge were accessible to all (Num 35:15; 2 Nephi 26:33)
5. Cities of refuge were to be entered without delay (Num 35:6, 10-12; Alma 34:32-36) — if you dont flee you’ve broken the law of Moses
6. The cities of refuge were the only hope for the guilty (Num 35:12, 24-28; 2 Nephi 4:15-35)

The Slayer: A Type for Israel
1. They executed (karath) the Messiah not knowing what they did (Num 35:11,15; Daniel 9:24-27; Luke 23:34)
2. They were protected from vegeance but did not enjoy total liberty (Num 35:11-12; Luke 16:22-26)
3. A distinction was made between the slayer “unawares” and the “murderer” (Num 35:15-24; Luke 23:34; Romans 9:6-8)
4. The death of the high priest brought complete liberty (Num 35:25; Hebrews 9:11-15)

Every chapter of the old testament..especially in the Law… is a testimony of Christ..

Hosea: The Calling and Election Of the House of Ephraim

There’s one chapter that some people think (faithful biblical scholars) is the most important chapter in the bible.. more than any chapter in the N.T… Hosea Chapter 3.

If you’re from teh tribe of Joseph..Hosea is your book. Even more so than the Doctrine and Covenants..

Deut 28: — When you go into Israel and inhabit it, fight your way to a particular place to make convenants with your Lord.

Joshua is from the tribe of Joseph – Ephraim. It’s the house of Joseph that leads the tribes of Israel into the promised land.
Joshua is the Hebrew name of Jesus.. It’s a type of the leading of the people until the Celestial Kingdom..

Bethabara — where the Israelites crossed the Jordan river..
Where Jesus was baptized..

Deut 28:29 — where Joshua is trying to get to.. Two mountains.. Garatine and Ebal.. One is on the right and one is on the left when the map is turned so the east on top.. In between Garatine and Ebal is a valley .. called – Shahem – in the New Testament Jesus went there to commune with the woman at the well.. Joseph was given this parcel of land.. It’s the tribe of Joseph, their rams, that the convenant is established..

28:29 — 6 tribes ascent each mountain.. 6 tribes shout across the blessings they’ll receive if they keep their promise.. The well built by Abraham, Isaac and Jacob..

The levites put the Ark in the middle.. Blessings were shouted acrossed.. then cursings were shouted across.. the Ark represents the presence of God.. God is cutting a covenant here.. Which tribe kept it’s blessings? Joseph.. not Judah.

There’s a reason why there’s more Ephramites than any other tribe combined.. contained in Hosea..

Hosea the Prophet is a type for Christ.

Anytime the Lord wants to teach/show something that’s sacred.. is told in the story of marriage.

There is no other story more beautiful than Ruth and Boaz.

Hosea’s wifes name is Gomer.

Hosea’s name means salvation.
Gomer’s name means …
They have 3 children.. — covenant symbolism.

The Bride of Christ:
“I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife” Revelation 21:9
At the end of Revelation she is sanctified and purified… Not that way in Hosea.

Hosea 1:2 — Go take unto thee a wife of whoredoms..

Chapt 1-3 — the story. The real story of what happened.
Chapt 4-14 — how the Lord likens this story to his covenant people.

Gomer comes to represent Israel.

Hosea 1:4 – Jezreel name of the Firstborn son of three..
Jezreel has alternate meanings.. “to sow”.. (seeds or blood)
“to scatter” .. “to gather”.

Hosea 1:6 — Lo-ruhamah (Not having obtained mercy).. firstborn daughter of three.. #2

Hosea 1:9 — Lo-ammi — not my people.. another son.

Son – daughter – son .. order is significant.

Hosea Chapter 2.

v1: Ammi = my People Ruhamah = Having obtained mercy

v3-5 — Gomer took off for her whoring men.. because they give her nice luxeries..
Later in the text Gomer is stripped.. sold as a slave.

Gomer keeps selling her body and becoming rich. Gomer is a type for the kingdom of Israel.

With Ancient Israel and modern Israel.. it’s not good enough to have some.. we have to comprimise the standards of our children to go get more..

The state of the kingdom is Israel is they have wealth and prosperity and land..but that’s not good enough.

If Gomer was your spouse what would you do? Divorce her? In the scriptures a study on marriage and divorce is startling to most people.. hosea 2:6 — build up a wall and hedge to keep her in.

v7 — seek her lovers but not find them.

If we go whoring after false Gods, they’ll eventually leave us because they can’t deliver.. we’ll have nothing, so then we’ll go back to their God. Because we dont have any better place to go.

v14 – I will allure her and bring her into the wilderness and speak comfortably to her..

Is this a man in Love? Or out of duty? Hosea honestly has emotional ties to this woman Gomer.. even though she’s abused him.

Hosea represents Christ. Gomer represents Israel.

v15 – I will give her, her vineyards.. Valley of Achor — where Joshua executed the dude that stole the garment from Jericho.. Where he was executed and his family and posessions were burned..

Isaiah 65.. the valley of trouble (Achor).. to work out whatever problems we have, and come back to the Lord.

v16 – Ishi and no more Baali .. call me ‘my husband’ ‘my master’
v17 – Baalim out of her mouth..
v18 — having the right name keeps coming up.
v19 – I will betroth thee unto me for ever.. betroth from Hebrew means “to woo her”…. or Marriage. Because of her unfaithfulness she broke the covenant.. need to Marry again..
v22 – Jezreel — to sow.
v23 – I will sow her unto me in the earth.
v23 – I will have mercy upon her..
v24 – I will say to them which were not my people, thou art my people.

Chapter 3 – hosea
v2 – Action. Gomer is a slave. Only 3 ways to become a slave. Birth, Conquered, or you become indebted.
Remember the Hosea and Gomer representation.
Aren’t we indebted?? For sin. We are indebted to Jesus Christ..
v2 – Who will give ten silver.. .. Hosea has lost his wife because of her indebtedness.. Hosea shows up to the action.. I bought her to me for 15 pieces of silver.. and a homer and a half of barley. .. He gave everything he had.. his money.. his food.. He was wealthy but she squandered it.. All that he has he gave for her.

v5 – Afterward shall the children of Israel return and seek the Lord their God and David their king;…… in the latter days.

Chapter 4

4:6 – Destroyed for lack of knowledge.
5:11 –
7:8 – ephraim will be mixed among the people.. cake not turned
9:1 – hast gone a whoring from thy God
9:8 – watchman among the gentles
9:13 – planted in a pleasant place..
10:12 – sow to yourselves in righteousness.. reap in mercy.. break up your fallow ground.
Moses 7:62 — righteousness shall look down from heaven and .. spring forth from the earth..

11:10 —
When the Savior shall roar the children shall tremble from the west.. (who in the west? Ephraim)

Ephraim hears the call and come to the rally..

12:9 — Shall dwell in tabernacles as in the days of the solemn feast.. Temples
12:10 – I have also spoken by the prophets.. and used similitueds by the ministry of the prophets.
13:5 – I did know thee in the wilderness …drought — Apostasy

14: — The great chapter of the restoration —

Chapter 14 — In the last days Ephraim shall repent and return unto the Lord.
Take no longer swords.. but NEW WORDS.. to gather the other tribes of the house of Israel.
Calves of our lips — Ephraim

v5- dew unto Israel … dew comes to represent revelation
v6 – become very prosperous

Olive Trees are symbolic of God.. because God gives us olives.. which is the healing balm..anti-toxin.. olive oil.

v7-8 — The TWO BIG VERSUS of our destiny as Ephraim..
who dwell under Ephraims shadow shall return

Corn, Wine and Oil .. 3 symbols used together is symbolic of the covenant.
Restored to the true covenant.

v8 Green = life.. fir tree

From me is thy fruit found.. — olives are the fruit.. Eternal life.
From me, Ephraim, is eternal life found.

What’s in a Name?
——————-
Jesus: Salvation
Hosea: Salvation —- Gomer: Complete
Jezreel: God scatters
Lo-ruhamah: Not having obtained mercy
Lo-ammi: Not my people

Cell Phones @ Education Week

So at education week at byu for the week.. fun stuff.. except for cell phones.

The person at the beginning of class always gets up and announces “Welcome to the XYZ class taught by Brother ABC..” Then they go into the “Please turn off your cell phones or put them in vibrate/silent mode”..

HOWEVER, there’s always someone in each class that has their cell phone ring during class. Why? With all the constant reminders?

Last night I was in the same classroom for 3 straight classes.. from the same professor.. There was one persons cell that rang the same exact ring at least 4 times during the 3 class period. Why wouldnt’ they get the clue.. and they didn’t just hurry and reach to turn it off either.. I think they didn’t want to draw any eyes towards them.. so they just left it and it rang again an hour later..

ARGH.

Today, one guy today answered his phone during class then started walking out while talking to the person on the other end… annoying..

i’m sure this is a pain to the instructor who’s on a good tangent then gets sidetracked listing to someones Mormon Tabernacle Choir ringtone..

Back to class….

WED – Ancient Prophets and the Heavently Councils

WED 16:30
David Bokovoy

Ancient Prophets and the Heavenly Councils

We are a bit different than others as we believe God acts in a council setting.

Teachings, pg150-151 — “The head God called together the Gods and sat in grand council to bring forth the world”

Doctrines of Salvation, 2:57 – “… councils were held and the spirit children were instructed… ”

Psalm 82:1; NRSV – “God has taken his place in the Divine Council; in the midst of the Gods he holds judgment”

Saba` — word for ‘Host’..
“In the religious world of the ancient Near East, the cosmos was understood to be ruled by the gods who not only existed in great numbers and should be conceived as a pantheon but frequently acted as an assembly or council to delivery and make decisions about the world and its inhabitants..
“Cosmology and World Order –??? ”

Saba` — Isaiah 24:21 — “In that day the LORD shall punish The Saba` of heaven in heaven, and the kings of the earth”

“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host (Saba`) of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6)

Genesis 2:1 – Saba` — Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the hosts (Saba`) were completed..

Isaiah 40:26 —

“Hebrew grammars traditionally represent the Hiphil stem as the causative of the Qal stem” .. KJV translated translated Yahweh as LORD.. or Jehova

Yahweh is the 3rd person for of the “to be” verb.. .’ HE IS ‘

When Jehova appears with a ‘a’ and a ‘e’ it is causative.. action..

He Causes to Be (or to exists).. the name Jehova literally means ‘He causes to exists’.

Frank Moore Cross – Canaanite Myth and Hebrew Epic, 65 —

Sod – Hebrew word described for ‘council’

- Amos 3:7
– the word secret we should cross out and replace with the word ‘Sod’– council —
divine council.. one who experiences first hand the divine council.
- Jeremiah 23:18
– A true prophet has/does
-counsel should be council
- perceived should be ’seen’
- A true prophet “STANDS” and he “SEES” and he “HEARS”
- Psalm 25:14
- Exodus 18:13-14
- Moses SAT ..and the people stood by Moses from the morning until the evening.
- A Mediator stands.. a judge SITS..
- Isaiah 3:13
- 1 Kings 17:1
- Jeremiah 23:18

Jewish Study Bible: Oxford University Press, 2004.. Jeremiah 23:18; “But he who has ’stood’ in the council of the Lord, and ’seen’ and ‘heard’ his word is a true prophet” Worth getting that bible if you want a scholarly bible..

“It is typical for gods in the ancient Near East to have at their disposal specific, lower ranking deities who do their bidding in running errands and relaying messages” “Angel of Yahweh”, “Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible, 53.

Psalm 103:20-21 — hosts, messengers.. in the two lines.. “Bless the LORD, O his ‘hosts’, Bless the LORD, O his ‘messengers’..”

Prophets who stand in the council, who see and hear the word of God.. become members of this council..become deified in the old testament.. become M&M

when you think of M&M think of prophets.
Messengers and Mediators in the council

Malachi = My Messenger

Behold, I will ‘SEND’ you Elijah the ‘prophet’ —- sent as a messenger from the council — messenger —- … and the heard of the children to their fathers — ‘mediator’..

Apostle is a greek word for one who is Sent.

Malachi 3:1 — messengers are sent.

Mosiah 3:19 — sent his holy prophets.. to declare…

Genesis 32:4 — Messenger Formula — “And he commanded them (messenger)..

“And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau” (Genesis 32:3)

Messengers would typically preface their speach with the messenger formula “Thy servant Jacob saith thus…”

Thus sayeth the Lord — Messenger Formula.. messengers sent from the council.

Mediator and Messenger in Isaiah 6:8-9 — “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” (Mediator — council) — “Here am I, send me” — Messenger

Isaiah is part of the ‘us’.. in 6:8-9..

“A large potion of the Mesopotamian sources raise the possiblity that the washing of hte mouth or the purity of the mouth has independent significance as a characteristic granting or symbolizing special divine or quasi-divine status to the person or object so designated. The pure mouth enables the person or object to stand before the gods or to enter the divine realm, or symbolizes a divine status. ” Victor Horowitz, “Isaiah’s Impure Lips and Their Purification In Light of Akkadian Sources.” Hewbrew Union College Annual 60 (1989): 54.

Isaiah 6:2 — “Above it “STOOD” the seraphims…”
v5-7 — coal in the mouth.. Makes him a member of the council… Now that he’s a member of the council he can say “I can go.. send me”..because he’s a member.

Throne Theophany —
1 Nephi 1:8 — Lehi SAW the heavens open.. saw God sitting upon his throne..
What are the angels doing? Singing, and Praising their God..
v8 – Concourse: “a Meeting; an assembly of men; and assembly of things”

v10 – Christ comes forth as a mediator in the council.
v11 – The first came before and STOOD before my father.. and he STANDS as a mediator in the council.

How many references are there to ‘my father’ in Chapter 1 of Nephi?
Nephi is not going to let us forget it..
why?
Genesis 22– like that. Abraham, his father.. Isaac, his son. The author doesnt want us to forget this relationship.
“My Father” in Hebrew … “The Hebrew [in Genesis 1:7] is literally ‘My Father,’ but that noun with the possessive ending is the form of intimate address in biblical Hebrew, like Abba in postbibilical Hebrew”.. it is ‘pappa’.. or ‘daddy’.. Rober Alter, Genesis: Translation and Commentary, pg 105.

The prophetic leader is called ‘my father’..
There are certain well-known passages in which the prophetic leader is called ‘my father’. James G. Williams, Journal of Bilblical Literature; 85 (1966): 345.
2 Kings 2:12 — 2 Kings 13:14 — examples of that ‘my father’.

1 nephi 1:15 — praising of his God..
Lehi has become a member of the divine council. He’s become one who stands in the council.. he can act as M&M.. One who has seen, heard and stands..

v18 — after the Lord shown him the things.. he went forth (as a messenger and mediator) among the people.. of the things which he had both seen and heard.

Conclusion:

D&C 107:19 —
To those who receive the Mel. Priesthood.. they receive the blessing of the privilege of receiving the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.. to have the heavens opened unto them.. to commune with the general assembly.. enjoy teh communion and presence of God the Father and Jesus the mediator of the new covenant.
